Post-Operative Information
These Instructions Are For Both Colonoscopy & EGD
THE NEXT 24 HOURS
You should not:
-
drive a car, operate machinery or power tools.

make any important decisions, such a signing papers.

drink any alcoholic beverages.
THE NEXT 5 DAYS
Do not take aspirin or products containing aspirin.
DIET
You may resume your usual eating habits, unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
MEDICATIONS
You may resume your regular medications, unless directed differently by your physician.
COMMON QUESTIONS

You may have cramps & gas retention following an endoscopy. You will be able to expel gas as you become more active and resume normal activities.

You may have a small amount of rectal bleeding following a colonoscopy.

If a biopsy was taken, your physician should have the results in 10 days.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR
Be sure to call your doctor if:

you suffer severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, excessive bleeding, or severe bloating
If you can't reach your doctor and you feel you are having a serious problem, go to the emergency room.
